I HATE a
lying spirit![1] Why do I so vehemently
detest a lying spirit? I’m so glad you
asked. The reason I hate a lying spirit
is because I played that game for twenty-nine years of my life. I had been conditioned and mastered the skill
of being deceitful. Whether it was lying
by commission (overtly lying) or omission (covertly lying by leaving out
pertinent information others needed to know), this proclivity had become my
norm. I was so bamboozled that I no
longer had the capacity to discern lying’s evil intent. For all of those years, I didn’t realize that
by compromising The Truth, I had aligned myself with the father of lies–satan
himself.[2]
As I began
to aggressively confront and challenge this behavioral pattern in The Light of
Truth, I asked Love to reveal how lying had become so acceptable to me.[3]
Please allow me to share with you a few of the reasons why I “housed”
and operated in a lying spirit for all of those years.
1.
Family Pathology
As I got older, it became more and
more evident that this lying spirit didn’t even begin with me. I was earthed into a family that had deep
secrets and chose lying as their method to self-protect the image they chose to
project. Therefore, I was groomed in an
atmosphere that released a lying spirit which fortified a stronghold although
unbeknownst to my developing natural mind.
This is an important point for all
parents, grandparents, and authority figures to be mindful of and understand. Whatever is done in the dark does come to
light, especially in the next generation.[4]
Therefore, instead of beating out of your child(ren) what you dislike
most in yourself, it is imperative that you admit, confront, and deal with you…first. The Word Promises that the anointing to be
Truth-full will fall down and bring order into your children’s lives as well.[5]
2.
Spiritual and Emotional Compromise
One thing I love about children is
that they are very honest in the expression of their emotions. You don’t have to guess when they are happy,
sad, angry, hurt, frustrated or even ecstatic.
Anyone walking into their environment would be able to see where they
stand at any given moment.
Unfortunately, Love revealed that I had been
deceived into believing that hiding my true feelings regarding a situation,
circumstance or even people showed my strength when in actuality it weakened the
integrity of my spiritual and emotional well-being.
When we know within ourselves the
true condition of our emotions and then choose to act or talk opposite of our
internal state, we have chosen to live a life of spiritual and/or emotional
compromise. Unfortunately, this releases
a destructive spirit of dichotomy or division into our lives, making us
unstable in all of our ways.[6]
By living in denial and dishonesty, those unacknowledged and unaddressed
emotions become suppressed and repressed.
Over time those suppressed and repressed emotions become toxic waste
which influences our belief systems, eventually manifesting in our behavioral
patterns. In essence, when we don’t give
ourselves permission to be honest about our emotional state and express those emotions constructively, they will be expressed however destructively.
3.
Justifying Sin
Due to multiple
unaddressed hurts and wounds, for years I was blinded by deception and
justified my sinful behavior instead of annihilating it.[7]
Additionally, I was influenced to be an active participant in the “blame
game.” It was similar to the “punkish”
move that Adam made in The Garden of Eden.
Instead of taking full responsibility for his own actions of eating a
piece of fruit from the very tree God told him not to eat, Adam chose to blame
his woman and indirectly blame God. Adam’s
statement, “The woman You gave to be with me” insinuated that if God had
given him a different woman, he would have made a different choice.[8]
I had to learn
that although I may be influenced to behave in a certain manner, the ultimate
choice was and is always mine. Instead
of justifying my sin, I was being called forth to remember my sin has already
been crucified with Christ. [9]
Therefore, as a Believer the resurrection of Christ Jesus has already
empowered me to walk in The Light of Truth.
It is important
for us to remember we are only held responsible for The Truth that is revealed
to us. In no way does denying The Truth
make It any less true. Spiritual
maturity demands that we call all sin what it is–missing the opportunity to
reflect Christ’s Character and Nature in any given situation or circumstance regardless
of the degree![10]
I
must confess that confronting this stronghold of lying was one of the greatest
fights I’ve ever encountered simply because I had to surrender to the renewing
of my mind and operate in a more perfect Way.[11] However, with each stand in Truth, the resulting experiences continue to
be the most freeing and liberating.[12]
In
conclusion, if you are where I have been, it’s time to stop playing the lying
game. I believe and pray as you see your
reflection in The Mirror of This Message, you will allow Love to lead you into all
Truth.[13] Embrace the divine
opportunity to think for a change. Love
Promises to reward you greatly for your diligence.[14]
Now, that’s The Truth and nothing but The Truth so help me God!
